My aim is to achieve a healthy balance on all levels,
acknowledging that a person's mental and emotional state has a direct impact on their physical well-being and is equally
important.
We are becoming increasingly aware that it is almost impossible these days to obtain all of the essential nutrients that we need through diet alone. It is important to acknowledge that even in our relatively affluent society it is still easy to be deficient in certain vitamins and minerals- but with help this can be corrected.
I believe that in addition to diet, factors including mental and emotional states, lifestyle, relationships, physical activity (or lack of), stress levels and past or inherited conditions all play a part in overall health. I offer nutritional and lifestyle support and advice that will give people the knowledge and confidence that they need to eliminate poor health conditions and to maintain optimum health. Ultimately, it is about encouraging each person to take control and assume responsibility for their own health and well being.
People seek nutritional therapy for a myriad of conditions. I believe that all systems in the body have an effect on each other and that an imbalance in one area may well present as problems in another.
By treating the body as a whole I use symptoms to discover and treat the root cause of a client's condition rather than simply treating the symptoms, thereby potentially masking the true cause. Without this approach, symptoms will reappear or present themselves in a new form.
Some of the conditions that nutritional therapy can help include:
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (I.B.S.)..... fatigue..... headaches and migraines..... eczema..... food intolerance..... weight issues..... mood swings..... stress..... insomnia..... high blood pressure..... infertility..... allergies..... menopausal symptoms..... anxiety..... blood sugar imbalance..... depression..... hypothyroidism..... PMT..... asthma
An initial consultation will last up to 2 hours. Prior to this, a food diary should be kept for a week. During this first meeting a detailed history of the client is taken in order to look for patterns and links that help to formulate the correct individual treatment. This may include a recommendation to have a food intolerance test.
An initial programme of treatment specific to each client would be created, taking into account lifestyle, financial limitations and personal preferences.
Subsequent sessions are decided between the practitioner and client as necessary. Generally it is beneficial to have a second session after a month but it is not usually necessary to have more than 3 or 4 sessions. Support is however available for as long as required.
Telephone consultations are available.
An initial consultation costs £45, subsequent sessions are £25. If you know that you want to do on-going work, a course of four sessions is available for £100.
I was initially worried that Clare would cut out all of my favourite things to eat and put me on a rigid diet with lots of pills. However, her gentle approach, empathy and practical suggestions have really made a difference. Some relatively simple changes have worked and I am very grateful to Clare for her expertise, her support and for helping me understand why I suffer from certain things and how to prevent them from happening again.
I am so much more aware and have a greater interest in my diet and nutrition - this is beneficial to the whole family not just me!
Claire Frewer, Brockham
My 5 year old son had been "ill" for some time. Every month a new symptom arose, augmenting a seemingly endless list. Although my GP was great, and even referred us to a specialist, she could find nothing medically wrong with my son. Most of his symptoms were classed as "something he would grow out of" whilst others could be explained away. However, my maternal instinct was screaming that something was definitely wrong. As a last resort, I approached Clare.
Clare listened intently as I described how my happy, fun-loving boisterous boy had become a shadow of his former self: emotional, moody, with a permanently upset tummy, bloated, breathless and exhausted. He suffered from frequent urination and night time bed wetting (when this previously had not been a problem), and was prone to every infection going with slow recovery.
Clare recognised every symptom I described, took a holistic picture, and calmly reassured me that there was plenty we could do to resolve these problems. She had experienced many of these symptoms previously as food intolerances and had successfully resolved them though changes in diet.
Clare did what you would expect from all nutritional consultants — she advised which foods to cut out of my son's diet completely and suggested alternative foods with the same essential nutrients.
As a busy mother herself, Clare understood how difficult it is to remove firm old favourites from a child's diet and replace with new flavours or previously rejected foods. She took a pragmatic approach, suggesting some tried and tested "sneaky" ways of achieving this. When one method failed, she patiently suggested alternatives until we found the right "trick" to modifying my son's diet and tastes without him realising it.
The results were soon evident. The frequent urination, bed-wetting, tiredness and emotional moodiness stopped immediately. It was remarkable. Within a few months, my son, who was previously exhausted just walking for 5 minutes, was swimming 100 metres and would happily join us on day-long country walks without moaning! Friends and relatives marvelled over the difference in him - he was my happy, boisterous boy again!
Clare herself, not just her knowledge, enabled this dramatic change. Above all else, she offered constant support, reassurance and understanding. Without this I would undoubtedly have listened to well-meaning friends and relatives, questioning my wisdom at cutting out such "traditionally essential" foods from my child's diet. But Clare's experience convinced me I was doing the right thing and her approach motivated me to stick with it. The results speak for themselves!
I would recommend Clare to anyone experiencing similar unexplained symptoms or suspecting food intolerances. You have nothing to lose and, like us, may have everything to gain!

When Clare mentioned she was setting up a website, I offered to write this testimonial — she did not approach me. I have been so impressed, I wanted to share our story, in the hope it might encourage others in similar situations to take action and seek Clare's help.
Following the birth of my own 3 children I developed relatively minor but life altering health problems and became increasingly frustrated by the fact that my hard-working GP simply did not have the time or the resources to really get to the heart of the problem. I turned to complementary practitioners and realised that I could rediscover my health with the correct help and support.
Having experienced the benefits myself I wanted to be able to help others to help themselves and
so trained at the UK School of Naturopathic Nutrition as a holistic
naturopathic nutritional therapist. I now work in private practice in Guildford, helping
people back to health naturally.
I am based in Guildford, Surrey.
